trophies imageWinning awards? Tout them! Here are the top 5 reasons to let the world know you’ve won an award:

  1. PR – The most obvious is the public relations value. You’ve just made news! Spread the word that your company/product/service has been selected as the winner of XYZ award. For small businesses and solopreneurs, the publicity is like free advertising and great exposure. Always send along images – photos of the award-winner(s) and project or product with a caption. Even if your press release doesn’t turn into a story, you might still get publicity with the photo.

  2. Expertise – When you win an award for yourself or your company’s team wins an award it illustrates your expertise. You’ve risen to the top of your profession and industry once you’ve been recognized as an award-winning {blank}!
  3. Prestige – Similar to illustrating your expertise in your field, most awards come with a degree of prestige. Feel proud? You should. Doubtful you would be winning awards unearned. It is a reflection of your hard work so pat yourself on the back and display those trophies and plaques in a prominent spot. Make sure the awards are meaningful in your industry, though. There are plenty of awards to be won, but you want to be competing for the most prestigious awards in your field. So do your homework and make sure your PR/Marketing team is doing theirs to enter the awards that matter most in your industry.
  4. Competition – When our competitive juices are flowing we’re often at our best. We’re keeping track of industry developments and what our competitors are doing. Are they winning awards? Competition spurs us on to excel. Awards are an acknowledgement of that excellence.
  5. Client Relationships – We all like to work with the best people we can find. Award-winning {blank} matters to some clients and customers. It’s a seal of approval, an endorsement from an organization or group that is weighing the merits of you and your competitors. If it gives you an advantage with your audience, then by all means tout the awards.
